Building with Clay in Satakunta

4 June – 22 October 2026, Korsmanin talo

26 June – 24 July: also open on Fridays from 12:00 to 17:00

The exhibition focuses on the use of unfired clay and presents the history and techniques of clay construction in Finland, with a special emphasis on the Satakunta region. Clay has been used in building since prehistoric times, and for centuries it has served, among other purposes, in sealing log walls, in clay plasters, and in structures made entirely of clay.

The exhibition introduces the properties of clay as a building material, various traditional and historical construction methods, as well as local examples such as the early clay buildings of Pori. It also highlights the renewed interest in clay as part of contemporary ecological building practices.

Building with Clay in Satakunta offers perspectives on the material’s durability, versatility, and relevance – from tradition to the future.
